Vintage 1997
The year was characterised by a series of early frosts which particularly in the second half of April were of notable intensity, putting at risk the balance of the vines in certain areas of the plain
Secondly an extremely strong hail storm hit the area of San Pietro in Cariano and Negrar on the 4th of July and caused damage of up to 50% of the area under grapes. Our vineyards were only partially affected causing a healthy, natural selection. From June onwards the season progressed fairly normally, with little rainfall up until the first week of November when the harvest was completed with an optimal contrast in temperature between day and night, which made for an excellent level of maturing and health of the grapes. The quality was excellent and induced the putting aside a quantity of grapes significantly higher than the vintage of 1996, which enjoyed ideal conditions for withering due to the type of bunches, rather scattered, and due to the low humidity during the night which did not favour the formation of mould.
The analysis of the grapes showed immediately a great harmony and richness in the principal components, giving weight and structure to the wines of superior value. |
